Mandy Randell

Year 5 and 6

Mandy obtained a bachelor’s degree in education at the Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University in Port Elizabeth, South Africa. She has 8 years teaching experience in primary schools. Her last role being a year 5 teacher at a reputable Jewish day school in Johannesburg, South Africa.

Mandy’s diverse experience teaching a range of students ensures she has developed a strong teaching repertoire and ability to design quality learning experiences. Her previous experience has provided her with a unique perspective on developing welcoming and supportive environments for all students of diverse backgrounds and cultural beliefs.

Her skills align closely with the AITSL standards and she has strong experience in each of the three domains: professional knowledge, professional practice and professional engagement. Knowing how students learn is central to her practice, and she has proven to understand the research underpinning how students learn and the implications for teaching. Throughout her experience she has come to identify building strong student-centered relationships as one of her strengths.

In terms of professional practice, she has proven to proficiently select teaching strategies that are responsive to the learning strengths and needs of students. This was pertinent in the context of teaching in a Jewish school, and she has proven to consider the diverse linguistic, cultural, religious and socioeconomic backgrounds of her students. Her warm and caring nature is an asset in this domain, and she always seeks to cultivate a safe and positive learning environment. As a lifelong learner, she understands the need for continued professional engagement and learning, and always seeks opportunities to implement evidence-based theories into her practice.
